IRS
revenue agents and criminal investigators are visiting preparers
who filed highly questionable EITC returns in 2008. The visits
are educational, but the agency will closely monitor future returns
and take follow-up action – including comprehensive due diligence audits, penalties
or possible injunctions – unless 2009 return quality improves.
